SunGard approaching land and RBI qualifier
We ve now been out for 31 hours, a gentle breeze and finally a helping tide are pushing SunGard Front Arena at 10 knots speed towards Portsmouth and the end of our qualifier for the Round Britain and Ireland race. We had to complete a 300 miles passage and with about 20 miles to Portsmouth we will have covered about 305-310 miles in total since leaving port yesterday just before lunch. We can now see the Nab Tower marking the entrance to the Solent and the isle of whigt to the left.
All going smooth on board. We ve been delayed by lighter winds than forecast and an unlikely timing with the tides, which means we travelled and extra 20-30 miles through the water.
The boat is just fantastic, we ve had no issues at all, well protected in the deep cockpit we felt very safe even though we had never sailed her before, the cuddies (or the veranda, as we now call it) have sheltered us from the freezing water and chilly winds making the trip actually very enjoyable despite the temperature.
