Sailor with Accountancy skills
Buying the class 40 is certainly proving to be the steepest learning curve i could have imagined, well, i did imagine that, i am just overwhelmed by the fact that sailing a boat seems to be just one of the trillion skills you need to campaign. And I cant even claim i can sail it, so that'll be one trillion and one.
things are well underway, the first few companies have raised their noses over the fence to see what all the fuss is about and here come you networking skills, your powerpoint skills, your internet skills, your communications skills, your presentation skills... chasing sponsorships seems to be as intangible as treasure hunting, if you find it you're a genius, a star, a role model, if you dont you are just a self delusional failure. No pressure then.
The boat is in the shed, and managing all the contractors would really require a project manager or a preparateur as the french would put it... trying hard to recycle years of finance PM skills to good use in the yard, but shouting loud and waiving your hands in disdain is the only thing that got anything done so far.
Speaking of the french, my A-level studies are being given a strong revival, Class 40 communication is all in french, and MC-Tec is in Tunisia is french.
The boat is being MCA coded, which makes the European Parliament bureaucracy, or indeed the Kremlin's, pale in comparison. Who on earth has a compass deviation card?! I had one on British Beagle, which read "none detected" and always wondered why, now i know. I'll also be the proud owner of 7 fire extinguishers, even a summer barbecue in the forward cabin would be safe now.
In two weeks i'm taking my yachtmaster practical and arranging a medical for the endorsement... Someone also told me i have a full time job, but i didnt believe him.
Last but not least, I'm thrown in the depth of accountancy, although i work in finance i do not have an accounting background, so it is all the harder. Maybe there is a sailor out there with book keeping or accountancy skills who would be willing to join the campaign and lend a hand to keep up with the paperwork and ease the burden that is so quickly accumulating.
ok, back to do laundry, iron some shirts for the week, there is no food in the house... the list goes on...
