Jaws
Eventful morning, i finally reached the continental shelf and the depth
sounder came bace to life, that has gotta be a good sign, there is a
little air since about 0900 UT but the progress is real slow, travelling
at about 4kt.
With shallow waters my radar alarm has gone bezerk, pinging several
ships, which obviously i cannot see as it is foggy. At some point i got
a target on radar which was just half a mile behind me and moving just
as slow as me, so i thought it could be FanFan after catching up with me
overnight... i called him on VHF and Uwe replied straight back to me...
but it wasnt him on my radar, the transmission on VHF was very weak so
he is not yet that close...
By now the depth is just over 100 meters and rising fast, the radar
detector is beeping like a damn morse code machine, so i'm certainly not
alone, but i can see anything on radar other than a big ship 4 miles
away which i aslo have on AIS... let's hope there are not too many small
fishing boats around.
Then i was circled by a shark for a little while, so i got out my shot
gun and waited for it to be close and shot right it on his head. Just
kidding but believe it or not this is what people used to do not long
ago, whereas i just put a sign "no swimming" on my pushpit and carried
on about my business...
I decided i will stop moaning about the wind and just get on with it. Slow
day yesterday, but not the worst one so far, which is encouraging:
