Gale force winds for leg 4 of the Round Britain and Ireland
This morning we woke up to a terrifying howling wind, i was up by six
running left and right trying to fend off the boat rafted up to me, the
bashing was very severe and got some minor damage, other boats were less
lucky and have great areas of the beams with crushed laminate.
The spectacle carried on for hours as the local RNLI tried to tow off
the boats with ribs, but even that proved a hard exercise and in some
instances more damage occurred as the boats were towed off.
The forecast is daunting, force 9 severe gale imminent, we have more
than 30 knots of wind in the marina but a

SunGard Front Arena takes first place in Lerwick in the third leg of the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race
Class 40 - At 16:38 BST SunGard Front Arena took first place in Lerwick in the third leg of the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race
overtaking Fujifilm just a few miles from the finish line.
This third leg gave the fleet plenty of excitment with fast downwind sailing from Saint Kilda to Muckle Flagga.
Italian Skipper Marco Nannini and Paul Peggs are extremely pleased with the result and feeling exhausted after the very close sailing between the Class 40s in the race. They are looking forward to some good food and plenty of rest.

Fighting for the lead at great speeds on SunGard Front Arena
We have pressed on giving the all in, at some point Phesheya, still
north of us and in a strategically better place was clocking up the
miles faster than we could and our lead was seriously under threat. The
wind was hitting 20 knots for the first times and 20 was the number Paul
and I had agreed upon as to when we would change the big masthead
spinnaker called A2 to the smaller fractional A6 more suited for the
strong winds we were facing.
We've all been there, the racing, when the red mist gets to you and you
dont change down chasing that extra margin...

A costly spinnaker wrap and delicate strategical decisions
At the 5am position report we saw we had done well, putting 1.5 miles
between us and phesheya, sailing faster and deeper along the route
suggested by the routeing software, which would take us north before
gybing and laying the line to the Shetlands.
The suggested route is high risk in the sense that it takes you quite
far from the shortest route and will pay off only if the weather
forecast is correct.
Further south Alex Bennett is clocking up miles and looks very good on
the position report, we run the routeing from his position and the
solution for him is to run along the short

SunGard Front Arena leads fleet at Saint Kilda in third leg of RBI
Just before 10pm Marco Nannini and Paul Peggs rounded Saint Kilda,
leading the third leg of the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland closely
followed by Phesheya Racing.
The duo had started with an 8 minute lead on second placed RSA Team
Phesheya Racing sailed by Nick Legatt and Philippa Hutton-Squire and
managed to hold the position through the light airs that hampered the
progress of the fleet.
The sailors are headed for Lerwick and the next mark on the course is
Muckle Flagga at the top of the Shetlands some 300 miles north east of
Saint Kilda.

SunGard Front Arena vs Phesheya Racing, the battle is on
We set off just over fours ago for the third leg of the Round Britain
and Ireland race, we are currently leading first overall, and will have
the challenging taskl of trying to keep ahead, with a challenging
weather forecast ahead, winds will die down to nothing later tonight
before swinging 180 degrees and filling in for was we expect to be an
awesome trilling spinnaker run to Lerwick in the Shetlands some 450
miles away, but first we have to got through the light wind band and
chase the new wind coming from the west.
When we woke up at 2 am a freezing northerly wind was blasting ov
