Fast sailing to the isles of Scilly
we just downloaded the latest position report via satellite phone, a
little text file that gives us the positions of all boats in the race
which we can then plot on our navigation software...
it is always hard to tell the exact pegging order while the wind is
shifting but i's say that among the class 40s Spliff is first, we may be
second but it is difficult to judge how Phesheya is doing as they are
quite a long way north of us although a little further west...
we can see Solo and Orca's navigation lights just to our right a little
back...
Livewire and Fujifilm seem to have gone a little too far south and given
the current wind it doesnt seem to have paid off, putting some 15 miles
to our south east.
as for the other classes it seems that only one of the multihulls,
Freebird and the all-carbon fiber brand new half a million open 40
Roaring again are ahead of us, putting us about 4th overall, although we
only compete against the class 40s and those are the ones we keep an
eye on.
all has been going very well, although we called the tack a little late,
going too far south, and paying dearly against Spliff, they tacked
earlier and were right, they are sailing an excellent race so far, we
should have just kept following them!!!
anyhow, the exact pegging order will be revealed as we round the Bishop
light at the south of the scillys, now sailing on course at about 9
knots, pitch dark, soon we'll have to hoist spinnakers, which is always
a tricky job in the dark, the wind is picking up...
ciao!
